If you’ve ever watched an episode of the popular YouTube series ‘Hot Ones’ you’re familiar with Spicin’ Foods products. They’re the sadists who manufacture and distribute Da Bomb hot sauce, which has become infamous thanks to celebrity opinion on the Beyond Insanity variety.
Based out of Kansas City, Spicin’ Foods found themselves with requests from warehouse stores for gift sets of their sauces. The hot sauces, of course, but also sauces specifically created in partnership with their hometown NFL franchise, the Kansas City Chiefs.
I was so happy to lend my packaging design experience to get this project off the ground in a rush to meet store shelf deadlines. Working closely with the internal marketing department, I landed on the below designs. It was important to refer to the fame of their signature sauce, so I included a faint background pattern of direct quotes (unattributed on the box) from the celebrities who love to hate the heat.
For the Chiefs set, the timing couldn’t have been more important, with the Super Bowl Champs celebrating an incredible season.
